France - Dordogne - Cycling Holiday

The Dordogne justifiably has a reputation as one of Europe’s most beautiful valleys. It’s also one of the most spectacular and fascinating parts of France. Perhaps ’the capital of prehistory’ too with many of the best examples of cave art and early settlement, but you also discover great castles, fortified towns and lovely villages.

Your circular cycling holiday starts and finishes in the beautiful medieaval town of Souillac, with its stunning 12^th century Benedictine monastery. Next stop is the Gardens of Eyrignac (considered to be amongst the best in France ) prior to arriving in Salignac where you will be able to visit its castle.

From Salignac we take a leisurely cycle to the typical Dordogne village of St. Genies before heading to Les Eyzies de Tayac.

Famous for its grottos we make time to visit these during our time here as well as the chateau village of Beynac perched high on nearby cliff-top.

From Les Eyzies we cycle through Montignac and Sarlat prior to arriving at Vitrac, where we are able to visit the grottos of Cougnac and the fortified village of Domme that overlooks the Dordogne river.

Our final day's cycling holiday follows the river and passes by the chateaux of Verrignac as we return to Souillac.

Cycling up from the rivers to the causses requires a moderate level of fitness. There are some good swimming spots on the Dordogne rivers.
