Our cycling holiday in Sicily visits the western corner of the island, where you will see how this history has uniquely shaped the culture and architecture of this unique island.
Sicily’s age-long history has thus yielded an incredible mix of traditions and cultures, leaving us with some of the most remarkable works of art and architecture in the Mediterranean.
Arriving in Palermo we transfer to the coastal town of Scopello, where we start our circular cycling holiday in the western
corner of this beautiful island. Our route takes us to the archaeological site of Segesta through, the hilltop town of Erice, around the coast to Marsala and then Selinunte.
Continuing on through the interior we pass close to the old town of Corleone made famous by The Godfather before visiting the town of Monreale and its amazing Cathedral - a mix of Arab, Byzantine and Norman artistic styles with a bit of Romanesque thrown in for good measure.
The warm sun contributes to the excellence of Sicilian food and wine through the vivid colours and tastes it gives to the fresh local vegetables such as tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, zucchini, olives, oranges and capers. Whilst the focus of our cycling holiday is, as always, on excellent riding through beautiful countryside, we’ve been careful to include time for a little indulgence in the local delicacies!
